Madurai Meenakshi Amman Koil

Madurai – Temple of Sri Meenakshi

A sacred complex located on 6 acres of which rise 12 gopurams overworked colorful representations of deities. The atmosphere prevailing within the temple is striking. Darkness with a few large openings that give some reflections of bright light a few statues.
Many beautiful statues, including a remarkable Ganesh.
Of course, many Hindu pilgrims without which the atmosphere is not there. An elephant is there and does its job on the pilgrims who come and go. You give something to Cornac (of course) and the elephant gives you a little mistake of the head.

It does not leave without visiting Tirukalikundram (2 km) by a small road that bypasses to the south the large hill to a cave Pandya period (8th century) carved in the rock face. Umaiyantankovil This cave is dedicated to the god Shiva
A series of steps gives access to a platform that opens the cave. On both sides of the entrance, on the vertical rock face were burned in shallow niches: Ganapati (another name of Ganesh), Bhairava with his dog, a dancing Shiva and his two servants, and Finally, a very worn Ganesh and Tirthankar of meditating, which indicates that this place became, at times, cults Jain
Upon entering the cave you see on the wall a bas-relief quite remarkable representative Heramba Ganapati (Ganesh seated on a lion amazon) to five heads and ten arms, surrounded by a series of eight small Ganesh sitting and right, a Kartikeya; both frame the Shiva Nataraja, the latter severely deteriorated. On the right wall, there is Vishnu and Shakti. Large pillars of the cave are decorated with carved lotus.
Other bas-reliefs are visible, less interest: Shivakamasundari, Ardhanarishvara. Improve your karma fun.
